Why Mushroom?



 Mushroom became a member of dining table of human being before several years Chinese,Greek,Roman people consumed it. Mushroom was a royal dish on ancient times and present time also . It is a food item that seen in the dining table of five star restaurants and VIPs. But now there is a change arose, mushroom cultivation spreads in to the villages also. They approached mushroom as both food and aid for livelihood . Now also the nutritional importance and qualities of mushroom are not conveyed rightly to people.


               What is the reason that point out mushroom as future food or super food. The nutritional composition is the main reason,we have used a number of varieties of mushroom for edible purpose. It is a tasty as well as good source of fibre and protein, which is easily digestible form. And vitamin B, vitamin C , vitamin D also present in it.Beside of these riboflavin,thiamin, nicotinic acid and folic acid are rich in mushroom.  The amount of niacin is same as in meat . Minerals like Fe,K,P also present in mushroom. Folic acid make blood circulation easy and due to less sodium property it can be good for heart patients as well as kidney patients . Fat and carbohydrate amount is much less than other foods. Available carbohydrates are in form of glycogen,chitin and hemi cellulose. No starch present jn it and sorbitol present in it so sugar patients can also consume it. A harvested mushroom contains 89.9% water ,2.9% protein,0.36% fat,5.3% carbohydrates and also morethan 10% fibres , it will prevent intestinal diseases upto a limit. Mushroom have a number of medicinal properties also , so it now used for medical purposes also . Agaricus blazi mushroom have property to prevent tumor, reduction of cholesterol level,and can be used against viruses for boost immunity power. Agaricus bisporus used against high blood pressure, reduce sugar level and proper digestion. Auricularia species can be used as pain killer , blood circulation enhancer and stomach pain reliever . Cordyceps sinensis can be used against bacteria, tumor, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes,to induce immune power ,as kidney tonic  , it increases sexual characteristics and also for mental stress relief. Ganodermum lucidum used as a antibacterial and antioxidant. Pleurotus ostreatus act against cholesterol and used as neuron tonic.



         Modern world suffocated with waste materials formed as after effects of production process . Mushroom cultivation will also a answer to waste management. The remnants after crop production can be utilised for mushroom cultivation. The byproduct from the mushroom cultivation can be used as fertilizer and also cattle feed. The main opportunities of mushroom cultivation is it's job opportunities for the unemployed and technically qualified youth and rural people ,if implementation of mushroom cultivation in rural premises leads  the opportunities to mushroom spawn production , sale of spawn , mushroom products etc. Processing of harvested mushroom leads to value addition . May be the next revolution in the world will be Mushroom revolution.
